Marathon

Approximately 42 kilometres northeast of Athens lies an internationally renowned historical town, Marathon. In 490 BC at the Battle of Marathon “our Greek ancestors were victorious in stopping the first Persian invasion which aimed to conquer the cradle of European civilization, Athens”.
